Those Who Give Grudgingly

6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have abundance for every good work.

[2 Corinthians 9:6-8]

There’s difference between sowing in tears and giving grudgingly.  Obeying God in the area of giving isn’t always easy. Dr Mike Murdock, the guru in this area sometimes gave to God and fell sick straightaway.  God asked him to give in unimaginable proportions. He said later, God came to him and told him; Son, whenever I ask you to give, I have a harvest in mind. This is called sowing in tears. I’m sure some of us have experienced this before.

I’ve heard Bob Asare, a man of God based in Takoradi talk about how he and his entire family (including the children) once gave in obedience to God’s command and no one could sleep all night long.  It’s called sowing in tears.

Giving grudgingly on the other hand is when we talk, murmur, complain and protest before giving. This is where giving has become a burden. Sometimes, the fault is from the Pastors. Some use scriptures to manipulate the congregation, especially the affluent ones. This is bad enough.

After church one day, the son of a certain man asked for yoghurt. The man yelled at his son by saying: “Stop disturbing me; they’ve taken all my money!”  Unfortunately, his pastor was right behind him and asked him: “Who took all your money?” You could imagine the embarrassment that this might have caused to the man. Certainly, he might have given grudgingly.

Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy (Psalm 126:5&6). However, those who give grudgingly offer sacrifices of fools.

May God’s grace abound upon us according to the scriptures above. May we have all sufficiency in all things. No more sacrifices of fools in the Name of Jesus. Amen
