The “Magic” Of Thanksgiving

21 And when he [Jehoshaphat] had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

[1 Chronicles 20:21&22]

We all know of how Jehoshaphat used the power of praise and thanksgiving to defeat the nations that rose up against the tiny tribe of Judah.

Reading from the beginning of the chapter, we realise he used unorthodox methods throughout the battle. First, he called for a three day fast when he heard armies have surrounded Jerusalem and Judah. I don’t know how one could be fasting when the enemy is deploying heavy artillery. It beats my little mind.

The second unorthodox thing he did was to put the choristers ahead of the army going into the battle. I don’t know if that is the wisest strategy to adopt on the battle front. I don’t know if such a strategy exists anywhere in the world. Certainly, America never did that in Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan. As far as I know, the most effective strategy is to take your enemy by surprise and not announce your presence with loud singing and trumpets.

Bible tells us the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men. As we know, Jehoshaphat had outstanding result when he applied God’s kind of wisdom. Today, I want us all to do same.

For most of us, it’s the most logical thing to do. We don’t need to be prompted. But for others, you may have to defy logic to praise God on this day- that’s faith.Jehoshaphat praised God in the midst of a raging battle and had a total turnaround. Do also likewise and see what God will do for you.

Let me announce to somebody that time of asking God questions is past. Time for crying, wailing and sympathy is long gone. Get up, raise your hands, kneel, fall prostrate and spread your holy hands and praise the God of heavens; and you will see what He’ll do for you.

Some will think you’re ‘going off’ but that’s how you hand over the battle to your God who performs miracles in your life.

Let me tell you God isn’t going to answer those mind boggling questions of yours; but He’ll respond favourably to your praise, worship and thanksgiving when it appears there’s nothing to celebrate.

Prayer: Father, we worship Your Holy Name in the beauty of holiness. We bless Your Name this time and forevermore. Amen.
