A Deep Sleep

🌹12 Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.

[Genesis 15:12, E.S]

🌹21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

[Genesis 2:21&22, E.S]

Whenever God wants to do a major work in people’s lives, He puts them in not just sleep, but deep sleep.  When He wanted to create woman for Adam, God put the man into a deep sleep. God doesn’t want you to be concerned about the step-by-step process. That’s not in your domain. Relax and wait for the finished product.

It’s the same thing God did in the life of Abraham. God was entering into an everlasting covenant with Abraham. He asked Abraham in the preceding verses to bring some specific animals. Then at the critical moment, God put Abraham to sleep.

Our medical officers have just copied our Father in Heaven. I am told and verily believe same to be true that they put people to sleep before major surgical procedures are undertaken. Even in instances where they don’t put a person to sleep, they still administer some amount of anaesthesia to paralyse the person, reduce the pain and to ensure that person does not interfere with the process.

The surgeon needs to cut you for your own good. However, if he doesn’t put you into a deep sleep, you’ll most likely resist the surgical instruments to your own detriment. So, they put you to sleep for your own good.

Deep sleep connotes the position of rest. You’re relaxed, but you’re also not in control. If you can’t see the head and tail of what’s going on in your life, then it’s time to take a deep sleep and allow the Almighty Surgeon of your life to do His awesome work. Yahweh is His Name.  Some of us are too much awake. We want to be in charge every step of the way. We even want to take the surgical instrument from His hands and do our own thing. No, please. Go back to the surgical table and sleep quietly. He’ll perfect that which concerns you.

May the Lord do in our lives that which will bring out the best in us. May He make our lives whole again in the Name of Jesus. Amen
